Expectations for Logistics Improvement and Distribution Efficiency

The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs announced on the 29th that it will accept applications for project candidates for the modernization of public agricultural product wholesale market facilities until May 31, 2023.

The agricultural product wholesale market facility modernization project aims to respond to changes in the distribution environment such as online agricultural product transactions and to improve the logistics system and distribution efficiency of wholesale markets by modernizing aging auction halls, intermediate wholesaler stores, and other wholesale market facilities and equipment. 70% of the total project cost is supported by national funds (20-30% subsidy, 40-50% loan).

Eligible project candidates are the operators (local governments) of 32 public agricultural product wholesale markets nationwide, where a preliminary feasibility review for facility modernization support by specialized research institutions has been conducted, and the wholesale market facilities have been built more than 20 years ago. Accordingly, the wholesale markets eligible to apply for the 2023 facility modernization project include 3 central wholesale markets and 9 local wholesale markets.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs plans to finalize the selection of project candidates in September through an objective evaluation process including document review, on-site inspection, and presentation evaluation by the Agricultural Product Public Wholesale Market Facility Maintenance Committee, which is composed of experts in architecture, distribution, logistics, and environment.
