Seobu Power Signs MOU with French State-Owned Electric Company for Middle East and North Africa Projects

Korea Western Power is partnering with the French state-owned electric utility company to jointly develop renewable energy and green hydrogen projects in the Middle East and North Africa.

On the 27th (local time), Western Power announced on the 29th that it signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for cooperation on renewable energy and hydrogen project development in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region with EDF-R, a renewable energy subsidiary of ?lectricit? de France (EDF), at EDF's headquarters in Paris, France.

The main content involves both companies jointly developing renewable energy and green hydrogen projects in the MENA region, which is rich in solar and wind resources. This joint development was significantly influenced by the trust built while Western Power and EDF-R prepared for the 500MW solar power bidding project in Mana, Oman. Encouraged by winning the project, both companies' interests aligned to promote renewable energy and green hydrogen projects in the Middle East and North Africa region in the long term.

Western Power is promoting renewable energy and hydrogen-related projects in response to the government's carbon neutrality and hydrogen economy activation policies. By 2035, it plans to expand domestic renewable energy facility capacity to 10.7GW, increasing the renewable energy generation ratio to 23%, and from 2030 onwards, it intends to use 200,000 tons of hydrogen and 1 million tons of ammonia annually as fuel sources.

Western Power is also conducting demonstration projects blending hydrogen in gas combined cycle power generation and research on blending ammonia in coal-fired power generation. Based on this MOU with EDF-R, it plans to increase the acquisition of major renewable energy and green hydrogen projects in the MENA region.

Park Hyung-deok, President of Western Power, said, "During the process of promoting the 500MW solar power project in Mana, Oman, we confirmed that we can create long-term synergy," adding, "We will also work together to successfully win the gigawatt-scale renewable energy bidding projects in the UAE."
