Geumsan 2 District New Project Site, Seokyong District Basic Survey Site
Muan-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Kim San) has secured 5.1 billion KRW and 7.5 billion KRW in national funds for the 2023 drainage improvement project from the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, with Geumsan 2 District in Haeje-myeon selected as a new project site and Seokyong District in Haeje-myeon designated as a basic survey site.
According to the county on the 29th, the drainage improvement project is fully funded by the national government and targets agricultural land over 50 hectares within agricultural promotion areas that are prone to frequent flooding. The project involves upgrading agricultural production infrastructure (such as drainage pumps and sluice gates) to prevent flood damage and proactively respond to disasters, thereby creating a stable farming environment.
The Geumsan 2 District drainage improvement project will proceed with design based on the basic survey results, actively reflecting residents' opinions, and will include the maintenance of one sluice gate and 1.9 km of drainage channels.
The county plans to complete the design this year and obtain approval from the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs to commence construction next year for swift project implementation. Once the project is underway, 57.7 hectares in Yonghak-ri and Cheonjang-ri areas of Haeje-myeon will benefit.
Additionally, the Seokyong District drainage improvement project will be conducted by the Korea Rural Community Corporation, which has been commissioned by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs to carry out the basic survey work.
Government Seong, Director of the Construction and Transportation Division, said, "As a result of efforts such as multiple visits to Jeollanam-do and the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs to propose solutions to residents' inconveniences, we were able to secure substantial national funding. Moving forward, we plan to continuously identify sites for drainage improvement projects in frequently flooded agricultural lands and request national funding support. We will realize Muan as the capital platform of Jeollanam-do that is livable and safe."
