"Morning Breakfast for 1,000 Won, Limited to 130 People... Tastes Better Than Expected"

Kyung Hee University Student Council President, MBC Radio Interview
Visit to Ruling Party Leadership, Consensus on Expanding 1,000 Won School Meals
"Hope to Include Multiple Generations, Not Limited to MZ Generation"

"Even now, if it starts at 8 o'clock, it sells out within 15 to 20 minutes, so students who come at 8:30 cannot even have a meal."

Lee Jae-baek, president of the Kyung Hee University Student Council, explained about the 'Thousand-Won Breakfast' in an interview with MBC Radio's 'Kim Jong-bae's Focus' on the 29th. The Thousand-Won Breakfast implemented at Kyung Hee University has become a hot topic because it costs only 1,000 won. However, not everyone who wants to use it can do so.

Lee Jae-baek said, "(The limited number) is currently 130," adding, "Originally it was 100, but the number of people wanting to use it was too high, so it was expanded by 30 people."

The number of students at Kyung Hee University’s Seoul campus alone reaches 13,000. This means that only one out of every 100 students is able to purchase the 1,000 won meal.

"Morning Breakfast for 1,000 Won, Limited to 130 People... Tastes Better Than Expected" On the morning of the 28th, Kim Gi-hyeon, the leader of the People Power Party, visited the student cafeteria at the Pureunsol Cultural Center of Kyung Hee University in Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul, where he ate the "1,000 won breakfast" and conversed with students. Leader Kim purchased an external meal ticket (4,000 won) to have the meal.

Lee Jae-baek explained, "The school supports 2,000 won, the government supports 1,000 won, and the original price is basically 4,000 won, but since 3,000 won is subsidized, students only pay 1,000 won to eat."

Regarding the taste, Lee Jae-baek added, "At first, I didn’t have high expectations, but it was delicious from the start, and the more I ate, the better it tasted, so I started visiting often."

The Kyung Hee University Thousand-Won Meal became more widely known after the visit of the People Power Party leadership. Lee Jae-baek said about the conversation with the ruling party leadership, "(Regarding the Thousand-Won Breakfast) I think we reached a consensus on the need to expand it."

Regarding the ruling party’s efforts to communicate with the so-called MZ generation, Lee Jae-baek said, "As generations continue to change, there are various thoughts and values, so I hope they will meet not only the MZ generation but also encompass multiple generations."

Regarding President Yoon Seok-yeol’s statement that all policies need to be viewed from the perspective of MZ generation youth, Lee Jae-baek said, "Since this is an approach that has not been taken before, I think such an approach is necessary, but in that process, the opinions of young people must also be included for it to be a youth-centered approach."
