Jeju Air "Guam and Saipan Expected to be Popular Summer Vacation Spots"

Jeju Air announced on the 29th that as the psychological recovery for overseas travel progresses rapidly, there is a growing preference for family overseas trips to destinations like Guam and Saipan using low-cost carriers (LCCs) strong in medium- and short-haul routes.

According to visitor arrival statistics from the Guam Visitors Bureau on the 29th, family groups of 3 to 4 people accounted for 45% of all travelers from December last year to February this year. This surpassed the 1-2 person group, which had held the largest share until November last year.

Additionally, the number of Koreans visiting Guam totaled 168,159 from October last year to February this year, accounting for 67% of the total 249,150 visitors during the same period, making Korean travelers the largest group among Guam tourists.

Meanwhile, real-time statistics provided by the Aviation Information Portal System show that Jeju Air operated a total of 620 flights on Oceania routes such as Guam and Saipan over approximately three months (up to March 27 this year), transporting a combined total of 104,679 passengers on these two routes.

This represents a market share of about 35% of the total 296,748 passengers carried by five Korean national airlines, including Jeju Air, operating the Guam and Saipan routes during the same period.

Jeju Air "Guam and Saipan Expected to be Popular Summer Vacation Spots"

Jeju Air conducted a survey on its SNS last year regarding '2023 Overseas Travel Plans' (sample size: 1,134). 70% of all respondents preferred 'medium- and short-haul travel' such as Southeast Asia and Japan. Among medium-haul destinations with travel times of 3 to 8 hours, Guam and Saipan were the most desired destinations, receiving 33% of the votes and ranking first.

Judging that the popularity of family overseas travel destinations in the medium- and short-haul range will remain steady for the time being, Jeju Air decided to increase flights on the Guam and Saipan routes starting in April and began preparations for the summer peak season.

Jeju Air will increase the Incheon~Saipan route from 7 flights per week to 14 flights per week (starting April 12) and the Busan~Guam route from 4 flights per week to 7 flights per week (starting April 20). Including the existing Incheon~Guam route (14 flights per week), Jeju Air will operate a total of 35 flights per week on three Oceania routes after April.

Meanwhile, Jeju Air will also conduct a joint promotion with the Guam Visitors Bureau. For tickets from Incheon and Busan to Guam available for travel between April 15 and July 31, customers who purchase tickets through Jeju Air’s website, mobile app, or web by April 7 will be able to buy one-way tickets starting at 149,300 KRW for Incheon~Guam and 139,000 KRW for Busan~Guam.

Customers can receive promotional codes for discounts of up to 30,000 KRW one-way and 60,000 KRW round-trip, usable even during the peak season, on a first-come, first-served basis. Additional benefits are also offered at local partner resorts such as Lotte Hotel Guam and Guam Crowne Plaza Resort when using Jeju Air.

A Jeju Air official stated, “According to a recent survey by a travel platform, the overseas destinations most visited by Korean travelers with their children are Guam, Da Nang, Osaka, Nha Trang, and Saipan in that order. We believe Guam and Saipan satisfy many travel conditions such as weather, time zones, relaxation, and urban tourism, and we are planning various promotions accordingly. We will continue to discover medium- and short-haul routes that families can travel on without burden.”
