Jobs Unaffected by AI Invasion... Chefs, Mechanics, and Petroleum Laborers

Jobs Unaffected by AI Invasion... Chefs, Mechanics, and Petroleum Laborers

A study has found that generative artificial intelligence (AI) like ChatGPT could have the greatest impact on professions such as accountants, mathematicians, interpreters, and writers.

According to the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) on the 28th (local time), OpenAI, the developer of ChatGPT, and researchers from the University of Pennsylvania in the United States announced the day before that these professions are the most exposed to generative AI, Yonhap News reported on the same day.

In addition, public relations specialists, court stenographers, and blockchain engineers were also identified as occupations highly exposed to technologies like ChatGPT.

It was analyzed that 19% of the entire U.S. workforce, including accountants, could complete at least half of their tasks much faster than now with the help of AI technology.

The researchers evaluated that "the latest GPT technology has shown excellent performance not only in interpretation but also in tasks such as classification, creative writing, and computer code generation."

Jobs where more than 10% of the work is influenced by GPT technology accounted for 80% of the entire U.S. workforce. WSJ interpreted this to mean that most jobs could be partially changed due to AI's influence.

On the other hand, occupations such as instant meal chefs, motorcycle mechanics, and oil and gas laborers were found to be hardly affected by AI.

Experimental Group Using ChatGPT Shows Improved Work Productivity

Not only this report but also recent studies analyzing the impact of AI on work have been released one after another.

Researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) divided 444 jobs mainly requiring a college degree (government departments, marketers, consultants, human resources specialists, etc.) into two groups for an experiment. The group using ChatGPT finished their tasks 10 minutes earlier than the general group and produced better results.

Microsoft (MS) stated in a paper released last week that the latest GPT-4 technology applied to ChatGPT demonstrated "human-level performance while solving new and difficult tasks" in fields such as mathematics, coding, medicine, law, and psychology.

Goldman Sachs said in a report the day before that generative AI could affect 300 million full-time jobs worldwide, expecting white-collar jobs to be the most impacted. At the same time, Goldman Sachs predicted that AI could increase labor productivity and create new jobs.
