The Korea Stakeholder Management Society was launched with the aim of moving away from shareholder short-term profit orientation and pursuing stakeholder capitalism, thereby establishing an advanced economic structure that fosters entrepreneurship and innovation among economic agents.
On the 28th, the Korea Stakeholder Management Society announced that it held its inaugural seminar on the 24th at the Kyobo Building in Gwanghwamun, Jongno-gu, Seoul. Following last year's 'Declaration of 100 for Stakeholder Capitalism' activities, the society was officially established and began full-scale activities.
At the inaugural seminar, along with the founding general meeting, Kim Ki-chan, President of the World Small Business Association, gave a presentation titled "K-Entrepreneurship and Stakeholder Capitalism." He also discussed recent aggressive moves by investment funds across various sectors including manufacturing, finance, and culture, as well as conflicts among shareholders resulting from these actions.
The society appointed Lee Jang-woo, Chairman of the Success Economy Research Institute; Kwak Soo-geun, former President of the Korean Academy of Management; Joo Hyung-hwan, former Minister of Industry; and Jang Ji-sang, former President of the Korea Institute for Industrial Economics and Trade, as advisors. Current and former presidents of management-related academic societies, professors, and businesspeople also joined as members. The society plans to hold two regular seminars and special issue seminars annually.
Lee Dong-gi, Honorary Professor at Seoul National University Business School and the inaugural president of the society, stated, “We will become a society that researches and communicates on the relationship between stakeholder management and business performance, as well as the characteristics of major shareholders and executives and their relationship with healthy companies. We will also study and communicate the impact of the increasing activities of activist funds and foreign private equity funds on the domestic industrial ecosystem.”
