Gijang-gun and Pukyong National University Sign Agreement to Establish Graduate School of Radiation Medicine Jung Jong-bok, Mayor of Gijang County (left), and Jang Young-su, President of Pukyong National University, signed an agreement on the 28th at Pukyong National University to establish a specialized university for radiation medicine.

The signing ceremony was attended by Jeong Jong-bok, Gijang-gun Governor, Jang Young-su, President of Pukyong National University, Park Woo-sik, Chairman of the Gijang County Council, and other council members. The event was held to promote mutual cooperation between Gijang-gun and Pukyong National University to establish a graduate school specializing in radiation medicine in Gijang-gun.

Based on this agreement, Gijang-gun will actively proceed with establishing the Graduate School of Radiation Medicine in connection with ongoing projects within the Southeast Radiation Medical and Science General Industrial Complex, including the Southeast Regional Radiation Medical Center, medical heavy ion accelerator, export-oriented new research reactor, radioisotope utilization research center, and power semiconductor commercialization center.

The Graduate School of Radiation Medicine aims to train physician-scientists through a seven-year program that combines clinical medical practice and research. It is also one of the seven major pledges made by the President for the Busan region.

Gijang-gun has already secured an 111,437㎡ educational facility site within the Southeast Radiation Medical and Science General Industrial Complex.

The county emphasizes its strengths, including the concentration of world-class advanced radiation medical facilities in a single area with an investment of 1.8554 trillion KRW (including industrial complex development), and the ability to conduct clinical education using the Southeast Regional Radiation Medical Center without constructing a separate affiliated hospital, enabling the establishment of the graduate school at minimal cost.

Governor Jeong Jong-bok stated, “Gijang-gun is the optimal location for establishing the Graduate School of Radiation Medicine. Nowhere else can you find a single area concentrated with world-class advanced large-scale national radiation research facilities.” He expressed a strong commitment, saying, “Gijang-gun will provide full support for the establishment of the Graduate School of Radiation Medicine, which will put Gijang-gun on the map.”
