The Jeonnam Fire Headquarters (Chief Hong Young-geun) announced on the 28th that Boseong Fire Station took first place in the '2023 Jeonnam Firefighting Skills Competition.'
Following closely, Mokpo Fire Station won the excellence award, and Yeonggwang Fire Station received the encouragement award.
The competition is held annually to hone firefighters' disaster response skills and strengthen their on-site response capabilities.
This year's competition was held over five days starting from the 20th at four locations including Jeonnam Fire School, Jangheung Agricultural and Industrial Complex, and Jangheung Campus of the Provincial University, with over 450 firefighters from 20 fire stations participating.
Representatives from each fire station competed fiercely in six categories: fire tactics, rescue tactics (applied rescue), emergency medical tactics, fire investigation, strongest firefighter, and life safety rescue.
By category, the top awards went to Mokpo Fire Station for fire tactics, Boseong Fire Station for rescue tactics, Hwasun Fire Station for emergency medical tactics, Yeonggwang Fire Station for fire investigation, Gangjin Fire Station for life safety, and Mokpo Fire Station for strongest firefighter.
The top fire stations in each category will represent Jeonnam Fire at the '36th National Firefighting Skills Competition' held in June.
Chief Hong Young-geun said, "I hope this competition serves as an opportunity to enhance the disaster site response capabilities of our firefighters."
Jeonnam Fire has achieved overall first place (Presidential Award) in 2021 and third place overall (Minister of the Interior and Safety Award) in 2022 at the National Firefighting Skills Competition.
