Kim Dong-yeon, Governor of Gyeonggi Province, declared a 'complete farewell' to disposable cups within the Gyeonggi Provincial Government office starting in April.
On the 28th, Governor Kim posted on his social media, "At the first meeting of the 'Red Team' launched last October, the use of reusable cups within the government building was proposed," and introduced, "After preparation, from December last year, the use of disposable cups within the Gyeonggi Provincial Government office has been completely restricted."
He continued, "It was a small action but a significant movement for the planet," and announced, "Now, the small practice at the Gyeonggi Provincial Government takes one step further. From April, bringing disposable cups into the building will be prohibited."
Furthermore, he promised, "We will place reusable cups at the building entrance to reduce inconvenience for employees," and added, "We will also prepare practical alternatives for the issue of disposable containers used in food delivery."
In particular, he emphasized, "Carbon neutrality is now an important task that can no longer be ignored," and stated, "Gyeonggi Province will take the lead in reducing the use of disposable products for the sake of the Earth."
Earlier, in September last year, the province officially launched the Red Team to bring a new wind to the public service community. The Red Team judged that the restriction on disposable product use in public institutions had not been properly established and took this as their first agenda item.
