Nexon announced on the 28th that it has participated as an investor in a new title being developed by CCP Games based on blockchain technology. CCP Games is well-known as the developer of the massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) 'EVE Online.'
In this $40 million investment led by Silicon Valley venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz, Nexon was joined by Hashed, Makers Fund, Bitkraft, and Kingsway Capital.
CCP Games is a competitive game developer that has maintained live services for 20 years and has been recognized worldwide for its gameplay quality.
Nexon decided to invest because it judged that CCP Games' high understanding of combining games and blockchain in terms of planning and design, as well as its philosophy toward blockchain, align closely with Nexon's own values.
CCP Games is the first blockchain game developer that Nexon has invested in. Through this investment, Nexon and CCP Games plan to carry out various collaborations to develop the blockchain game ecosystem.
Kang Daehyun, COO (Chief Operating Officer) overseeing Nexon's blockchain projects, stated, “Going forward, Nexon will continue to invest with a long-term perspective by discovering partners who have competitiveness in blockchain games.”
