Gochang-gun, Jeollabuk-do announced on the 28th that it will conduct a comprehensive maintenance of old road signs in celebration of the ‘2023 Year of Visiting Gochang.’
This initiative was promoted to create a pleasant road environment and enhance the convenience of visitors.
From the end of last year to January, the county conducted a comprehensive survey of old road signs along eight major routes within the jurisdiction (3 national highways and 5 provincial roads).
The maintenance targets include a total of 450 locations: 80 on national highways, 40 on provincial roads, 30 on county roads, and 300 others such as additional guide signs and pedestrian crossing warning signs.
Maintenance for national and provincial roads was requested to the relevant departments, Jeonju Regional Land Management Office and Jeollabuk-do Road Management Office. For county roads and below, priorities have been set to carry out sequential maintenance by the first half of the year. For other guide signs, two teams per route have been organized to perform maintenance.
Among these, to maintain the remaining provincial road signs within the jurisdiction, a budget of 220 million KRW was proposed and reflected by the province, allowing for flexible maintenance plans.
Na Cheol-ju, Director of the Construction and Urban Department, said, “We will do our best to minimize inconvenience to visitors and residents by maintaining old road signs within the jurisdiction and creating a pleasant and safe road environment to commemorate the Year of Visiting Gochang.”
