BMW M's First Plug-in Hybrid
MW Korea officially launches the M-exclusive high-performance Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) model XM in the domestic market.
The XM is the first M-exclusive model introduced by BMW M since the legendary sports coupe M1 was launched in 1978. It features the first PHEV (plug-in hybrid electric vehicle) in the M high-performance lineup.
The M hybrid system, introduced for the first time through the XM, intelligently controls the interaction between the engine and the motor. A new M TwinPower Turbo technology-equipped 489-hp high-revving V8 gasoline engine and a 197-hp electric motor work in harmony to deliver a combined maximum output of 653 hp and a peak torque of 81.6 kg·m. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.3 seconds.
This vehicle is equipped with a high-voltage battery with a capacity of 29.5 kWh, allowing it to drive 62 km in pure electric mode according to Ministry of Environment certification standards. The top speed in electric mode is 140 km/h. It takes about 4.2 hours to fully charge the battery with slow charging. The combined fuel efficiency is 10.0 km/ℓ.
The BMW IconicSound Electric, co-developed by BMW Group and film music composer Hans Zimmer, is installed to provide a distinctive driving sound. The unique M electric driving sound is generated according to accelerator pedal operation during electric mode driving. When driving in hybrid mode, selecting Sport or Sport Plus mode provides a boost sound.
The front of the XM harmonizes split headlights, the BMW kidney grille with border and contour lighting, and large air intakes.
The front seats come standard with M multifunction seats, knee pads, and an M leather steering wheel. The BMW Curved Display and BMW Head-Up Display feature M-exclusive graphics.
The rear seats are equipped with an Alcantara headliner featuring a three-dimensional prism structure. Lighting effects using 100 LEDs can be seen.
The electronically controlled Adaptive M Suspension Professional and active roll stabilization function operated by a 48-volt electric motor maximize driving stability. The BMW Integral Active Steering, which is standard for the first time in an M model, provides agile cornering performance at low speeds and driving stability at high speeds.
Additionally, advanced driver assistance systems (Driving Assistant Professional), wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound System are also standard features.
The price of the BMW XM is 221.9 million KRW, and optional features such as M Extended High Gloss Shadow Line, BMW Individual Metallic Paint, and BMW Individual Merino & Exclusive Content are available through BMW Shop online reservation.
