Coupang Appoints Yoon Hye-young and Lee Byung-hee as Retail Division Heads to Strengthen Expertise

From Former Vice President to CEO System
Strengthening Responsible Management, Advancing Rocket Delivery Service

Coupang has appointed Vice Presidents Yoon Hye-young and Lee Byung-hee, who were in charge of the retail division, as heads of the business unit. This move aims to strengthen responsible management and to advance Coupang's core competency, the Rocket Delivery service.

On the 28th, Coupang announced that Vice President Yoon, who oversees Home Living, Leisure, Grocery, and Rocket Fresh, and Vice President Lee, who oversees Electronics, Media, Beauty, and Household Goods, have been appointed as the chief executives (representatives) of the retail division. The plan is to enhance expertise and strengthen responsible management by transitioning to a dual CEO system for each retail sector.

Representatives Yoon and Lee are distribution experts who have worked together since the early days of Rocket Delivery. Both joined Coupang within two months of each other in 2014, when Rocket Delivery was first introduced. They are credited with contributing to the expansion of Rocket Delivery to include millions of product assortments, guaranteeing the lowest prices with ample inventory, and ensuring same-day and dawn delivery services.

Representative Yoon graduated from Ewha Womans University and previously worked at Walmart Korea and Homeplus. She stated, "The beginning and end of all thoughts will be the customer, and I will do my best every day to embrace change and innovation without fear and to put them into practice."

Lee Byung-hee, Coupang Retail Division Representative, graduated from Korea University and joined Coupang after working at the Aekyung Group and CJ CheilJedang. He said, "We will constantly think, change, and challenge ourselves to provide better experiences to customers who love Coupang's Rocket Delivery. We will offer a wider assortment and unprecedented services than ever before."

Through this transition to a retail division representative system, Coupang plans to upgrade its core service, Rocket Delivery, and focus on customer value. Coupang also expects that as it expands its product assortment, more small business owners selling quality products will be discovered and that they will be able to open new sales channels through Coupang.
