Jeon appeared at the Incheon International Airport arrival hall around 6:50 a.m. that day, dressed neatly in a dark gray suit and navy tie, and said this to the press.

Jeon, who was arrested by the police at Incheon International Airport, responded to questions about his feelings by saying, "I am grateful to the people for giving a sinner like me the opportunity to come to Korea and apologize, and I am sorry for causing trouble. I will cooperate with the investigation as much as possible and want to apologize to the bereaved families and victims of the May 18 Democratic Movement after I am released." He then explained the reason for his decision to apologize, saying, "As much as my life is precious, everyone's life is precious. I am alive, but those people (May 18 victims) are not here, so we are at fault."

He virtually admitted to the drug use charges. Jeon said, "I showed everything on (internet) broadcasts so that my crimes cannot be hidden. There are also records of drug use in the American hospital records."

He said his family's reactions were varied. He said, "Some treat me like a madman, some sincerely care for me, some tell me not to go to Korea, and some have no contact at all?it's all kinds of reactions."

The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's Narcotics Crime Investigation Unit announced that Jeon, who is suspected of drug use and other charges, was arrested immediately upon arrival at the airport and will be taken to the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's Mapo Station in Mapo-gu, Seoul, for investigation. It is known that the police obtained an arrest warrant and a search warrant from the court the day before.

Jeon is suspected of using drugs locally in the United States. A National Investigation Headquarters official from the Korean National Police Agency stated on the 20th, "A suspicious video of Jeon using drugs was uploaded on the internet, and we are currently conducting a pre-investigation to verify the facts." Earlier, on the morning of the 17th (Korean time), he appeared to use drugs during a YouTube live broadcast and was later taken to a hospital.

Previously, while staying in New York, USA, Jeon raised suspicions about his family's slush funds through his SNS and other channels. He claimed that the family was living a luxurious life with money from unknown sources.
