Park Ji-won, Former NIS Chief, Says "Democratic Party's Call for 'Han Dong-hoon Impeachment' Is Premature"

Min Hyung-bae's Party Resignation Is a 'Trick'
"We Must Acknowledge What Needs to Be Acknowledged"

Former National Intelligence Service Director Park Ji-won said on the 27th that he thinks the Democratic Party of Korea's mention of the impeachment of Justice Minister Han Dong-hoon is "a bit premature."

Park appeared on the National Assembly Broadcasting's 'National Assembly Live 1' that day and expressed this view regarding the Democratic Party's call for Minister Han's impeachment following the Constitutional Court's decision on the 'Geomsu Wanbak' (complete removal of the prosecution's investigative authority) law.

Park also referred to independent lawmaker Min Hyung-bae's departure from the Democratic Party during the National Assembly Legislation and Judiciary Committee's handling of the bill as a "trick," saying, "Honestly, we need to acknowledge what should be acknowledged."

However, he added, "If the Constitutional Court's decision was constitutional, is there a need for Min to remain independent?" and said, "It would be better for him to return to the Democratic Party confidently and continue his activities."

Regarding Minister Han's dissatisfaction with the Constitutional Court's decision recognizing the legislative effect of the Geomsu Wanbak law, Park pointed out that it was "undesirable." He implied that it is inappropriate for the Justice Minister, of all people, to make remarks opposing the Constitutional Court's decision.

Park also stated, "There are talks that the Yoon Seok-yeol administration is an executive order regime, but to prevent such talk, the government must act according to the main law," adding, "Minister Han should not discuss state affairs stubbornly but should follow the law."
