Let's Practice the 3 Lows and 3 Highs Together for High-Quality Rice Production
On the 27th, Hwasun-gun, Jeollanam-do announced that it is taking the lead in practicing the 3 Low and 3 High movement to ensure appropriate local rice production and reduce production costs.
The 3 Low and 3 High movement refers to the 3 Low (低) efforts to ▲reduce rice cultivation area by growing other crops in paddy fields, ▲reduce nitrogen fertilizer usage, and ▲cut production costs, as well as the 3 High (高) efforts to ▲choose high-quality rice varieties instead of high-yield varieties, ▲increase the proportion of perfect grains, and ▲boost rice consumption.
The county is working hard to expand the cultivation of other crops in paddy fields, including promoting a demonstration project for soybean cultivation in paddy fields this year.
To this end, the Shin-dongjin variety, which is vulnerable to lodging and pre-harvest sprouting, will be replaced with the Saecheongmu variety (Jeonnam No. 6), a variety developed in Jeollanam-do, to create a 50-hectare rice production complex.
In addition, field guidance will be strengthened to reduce nitrogen fertilizer usage (from 9kg/10a to 7kg), lower protein content, and increase the proportion of perfect grains.
An official from the Hwasun-gun Agricultural Technology Center said, “The 3 Low and 3 High movement is a public-private joint practice movement, and active participation of farmers is important. We ask for your participation in the 3 Low and 3 High movement to improve the quality of our county’s rice and strengthen its competitiveness.”
