The Naju City Council of Jeollanam-do (Chairman Lee Sang-man) announced on the 27th that it held the 2nd plenary session of the 250th Naju City Council (extraordinary session) on the 20th and unanimously adopted the "Resolution Condemning the Board of Audit and Inspection's Political and Targeted Audit of Korea Energy University."
The resolution included calls for "the Yoon Seok-yeol administration not to use Korea Energy University as a political retaliation tool against the previous administration" and for "the Board of Audit and Inspection to immediately stop the targeted audit that damages the honor of 120,000 Naju citizens and crushes the dreams of youth."
Kim Kang-jung, the representative proposer of the resolution, said, "The audit of Korea Energy University, which was lawfully established according to a law enacted by bipartisan agreement, appears to be nothing but a political and targeted audit aimed at the Moon Jae-in administration."
He added, "The raised issues, such as the use of the power infrastructure fund for purposes other than intended and the suspicion of preferential treatment in changing the use of the remaining land of Booyoung Country Club, are either baseless claims or not yet finalized, so raising these as problems is largely for political reasons."
He also emphasized that Korea Energy University is cultivating high-level talents essential for becoming an energy powerhouse beyond nurturing talents from Gwangju and Jeonnam, and it represents an unprecedented new history in local education that will be a crucial axis for the development of Honam.
The Naju City Council plans to deliver the adopted petition to the President, the Speaker of the National Assembly, floor leaders of each political party, and the Minister of Education, among others.
