Daejeon School Irregular Workers Solidarity Announces General Strike on the 31st of This Month

The Daejeon School Irregular Workers Solidarity Meeting has announced a general strike scheduled for the 31st of this month.

On the 27th, the Solidarity Meeting stated, "Since last September, we have been conducting collective wage negotiations with the education authorities, but no agreement has been reached," adding, "The education authorities have finally proposed a 2% increase in the base salary, showing no intention to resolve discrimination."

They also explained, "Due to wages at the minimum wage level, cafeteria workers are resigning in large numbers, but no new hires are being made," and "As a result, two workers are doing the work of four, increasing labor intensity and exposing workers to a higher risk of industrial accidents."

They emphasized, "While the role and importance of school irregular workers are increasing, the education authorities are only offering makeshift measures," and "We urge the preparation of comprehensive measures including staff reinforcement and labor safety."

Meanwhile, in response to the Solidarity Meeting's general strike announcement, the Daejeon Metropolitan Office of Education plans to operate a situation room to monitor and respond in real time to the status of cafeteria services, childcare, and after-school programs at kindergartens.
