Goheung-gun Receives Institutional Commendation from the Korean National Tuberculosis Association

Dedicated Nurse Placement in Medical Institutions for Tuberculosis Prevention and Management

Goheung-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Gong Young-min) announced that it was selected as an excellent institution among 22 public health centers in Jeollanam-do and received an institutional commendation from the Korean National Tuberculosis Association at the ceremony held at the Jeonnam Provincial Library auditorium on the 24th to mark the 13th Tuberculosis Prevention Day.

The public health center was recognized for its significant contribution to tuberculosis management by actively discovering patients and conducting various projects such as tuberculosis prevention for tuberculosis screening of elderly people aged 65 and over, and thus received this institutional commendation.

The public health center is conducting X-ray screenings and sputum tests for elderly participants in job projects aged 65 and over and 10 nursing facilities in the district to reduce tuberculosis patients, and is also promoting latent tuberculosis screening at life transition periods as a new project this year.

In addition, to prevent tuberculosis, a cooperative system has been established with medical institutions participating in private-public partnership projects, and dedicated tuberculosis management nurses have been assigned to medical institutions.

The dedicated tuberculosis management nurses are making thorough efforts to minimize tuberculosis patients and block transmission within the community by managing patients strictly, including guiding treatment schedules from patient registration to cure, providing tuberculosis-related education, checking medication and side effects, screening close contacts such as family members, and taking measures in case of non-compliance.

A public health center official said, “We will continue to operate tuberculosis prevention projects more systematically to create a tuberculosis-free clean Goheung.”
