"Handonghun Drafted for General Election? Already Engaged in Politics"
Support for Min Hyung-bae's Reinstatement
Jeong Tae-ho, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, commented on the Constitutional Court's decision to uphold the legislative effect of the 'Geomsu Wanbak (complete removal of prosecutorial investigation rights)' and the impeachment discussions against Minister of Justice Han Dong-hoon within the party, saying, "Impeachment is not a cure-all," and added, "Although impeachment is an important power held by the National Assembly, it should be judged carefully considering public opinion and other factors."
At the same time, he stated, "The spirit and purpose of the law were undermined, and the responsibility for causing confusion among the public through the dispute over authority trial is serious," and insisted, "As a legal professional, he (Minister Han) should naturally resign on his own."
On the 27th, Jeong appeared on SBS Radio's 'Kim Tae-hyun's Political Show' and said, "(The Ministry of Justice) filed a dispute over authority trial, but the Constitutional Court dismissed it," adding, "If it caused confusion among the public, Minister Han should naturally resign voluntarily. That is the correct answer."
Jeong explained, "The essence of the Constitutional Court's decision is that investigative rights can be adjusted by law," and clarified, "It is not a legal issue but something that can be adjusted through legislation." He continued, "From that perspective, violating the rule of law through enforcement ordinances is a serious responsibility."
Regarding the question about Minister Han's 'draft for the general election,' Jeong responded, "Minister Han is already involved in politics." He said, "In my view, Minister Han is no longer a public official. As Minister of Justice, enhancing legal credibility is the most important, but judging from his remarks in the National Assembly, there are far more political statements. Since he is a politician, he should just do politics."
On the topic of independent lawmaker Min Hyung-bae's return to the Democratic Party, Jeong said, "I have not heard any concrete statements yet," but added, "Personally, I think he should rejoin." Jeong said, "I believe he showed sincerity, so I hope he communicates well with the public, considering the democratic operation of the National Assembly and public sentiment."
He continued, "Min was the most dedicated and passionate about prosecutorial reform," and said, "Therefore, I have understood that he left the party by his own decision. It is a considerable burden as a politician." He added, "Since the Constitutional Court showed some procedural flexibility, I think he will consider those aspects when making his decision."
