On April 2nd, the Yeongju Sobaeksan Marathon will be held, and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on that day, traffic on some marathon route roads will be partially restricted.
About 7,500 participants will take part in the event, starting sequentially from 9:30 a.m. at the Citizen Sports Complex in four course categories: full marathon, half marathon, 10 km, and 5 km.
Yeongju City will implement phased traffic control on major marathon sections from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the day of the event to ensure participant safety. In particular, the 5 km and 10 km sections (Citizen Sports Complex - Gyeongbuk College - Yeongju Station - Seocheon Bridge - Registry Office - Riverside 2nd Apartment Complex - Citizen Sports Complex), which have many participants, will be fully or partially restricted.
The detailed traffic control route is as follows: Citizen Sports Complex → 2nd Gahung Bridge → Nambu Elementary School → Yeongju Station → Bellina Wedding Hall → Shin Yeongju Gas Station (5 km turnaround point) → Seocheon Bridge → Gohyeon Bridge (10 km turnaround point) → Fantasion Resort → Dongchon Samgeori → Bukbawi Farm (half marathon turnaround point) → Sunheung Township Office → Seonbi Village → Korea Gas Station → Dansan Samgeori → Gugu 2-ri → Dansan Samgeori → Baeksan Seowon → Seocheon Bridge → Gahung 2-dong Office → Registry Office → Municipal Library → Hyundai Riverside 2nd Apartment Complex → Citizen Sports Complex.
However, the full marathon section from Bukbawi Farm (half marathon turnaround point) → Sunheung Township Office → Seonbi Village → Korea Gas Station → Dansan Samgeori → Gugu 2-ri → Dansan Samgeori → Baeksan Seowon → Seocheon Bridge → Gahung 2-dong Office → Registry Office → Municipal Library → Hyundai Riverside 2nd Apartment Complex → Citizen Sports Complex will have only one lane restricted.
To minimize traffic congestion and inconvenience to citizens, Yeongju City will deploy about 100 personnel including city hall officials, traffic police, the Model Drivers Association, and the Volunteer Crime Prevention Unit around the event venue to manage traffic and prevent accidents.
A city official said, “We ask participants to use public transportation as much as possible,” and added, “We request active cooperation and understanding from citizens for a safe and successful event.”
