Lamborghini Unveils Performance of Its First Hybrid Car

Code Name LB744... Offers 13 Options

Lamborghini announced on the 27th that it has revealed the driving modes ahead of the global launch of its first high-performance hybrid vehicle (HPEV·High Performance Electrified Vehicle), codenamed ‘LB744’.


This vehicle offers a total of 13 driving modes, including a zero carbon emission mode. Along with the hybrid system, three new driving modes?Recharge, Hybrid, and Performance?have been added. These combine with the Citt?, Strada, Sport, and Corsa modes. They can be selected via two rotors on the newly designed steering wheel.

The Citt? mode is designed for everyday road driving with zero carbon emissions. If the lithium-ion battery that powers the electric motor needs charging and no charging station is available, the V12 engine intervenes to fully recharge it within minutes (Recharge mode). It is a high-efficiency mode that reduces air resistance and limits maximum output to 180 horsepower.


The Strada mode is suitable for long-distance travel. The V12 engine remains continuously active to ensure a steady state of battery recharge. The front e-axle supports torque vectoring and provides active aerodynamics and maximum stability on highways.


Selecting Sport mode allows for a responsive driving experience with three configurable combinations.


Corsa mode is the driving mode that maximizes the vehicle’s capabilities on the track. In Performance mode, the powertrain delivers a maximum output of 1015 CV.


In Corsa Recharge mode, battery priority can be set to increase maximum charge capacity. The launch control function enables a start at maximum power and is activated by pressing the button located in the center of the left rotor.

The new Monofuselage body is 10% lighter yet 25% stronger than the Aventador. For the first time in Lamborghini’s 12-cylinder models, a dual-clutch gearbox is installed. It is equipped with a newly developed 6.5-liter naturally aspirated V12 mid-engine. Three electric motors are additionally placed on the front e-axle. Among them, two motors are integrated with a new 8-speed dual-clutch transmission, arranged transversely behind the engine for the first time. The space reserved for the transmission since the Countach now houses a high-power new lithium-ion battery that powers the electric motors.


According to the company, the new structure optimizes weight distribution with a 44% front and 56% rear weight balance. These technological advancements are further enhanced by the high rigidity of the anti-roll bars (11% improvement front, 50% improvement rear) and a reduction in steering ratio (10% decrease compared to the Aventador Ultima). This design approach has already been tested on the Hurac?n STO.


Lamborghini is advancing its electrification roadmap for all lineups, called ‘Direzione Cor Tauri’ (Towards the Heart of the Taurus), to be completed by 2024.
