Seong Il-jong "Impeach Han Dong-hoon? Opposition, Impeach Lee Jae-myung First"

Seong Il-jong, a member of the People Power Party, raised his voice against the impeachment movement of Minister of Justice Han Dong-hoon by a faction of the Democratic Party of Korea, saying, "What law did the minister violate?" and "Impeach Representative Lee Jae-myung first."

On the 27th, Seong said on SBS's 'Kim Tae-hyun's Political Show,' "I might understand if the Democratic Party impeaches Representative Lee first. Right now, Representative Lee is committing tremendous illegal acts and yet is left alone."

He added, "Regarding economic crimes or corruption crimes, investigations can currently be conducted under Article 4 of the Prosecutors' Office Act. Therefore, Minister Han is enabling the prosecution to investigate through the enforcement decree related to this. It seems this is the issue being raised," and questioned, "Then, when investigations into such crimes are not conducted, or when they are covered up or buried, is it not appropriate to impeach the Minister of Justice? Is investigating criminal acts that completely corrode this nation and society and dismantle the legal system a reason for impeachment?"

The Democratic Party is raising issues with the enforcement decree on 'Geomsuwonbok (Restoration of Prosecutorial Investigation Authority)' promoted by Minister Han, arguing that it contradicts the Constitutional Court's judgment. In response, Representative Seong said, "If no crime was committed, what is there to fear? I cannot understand it," and added, "Rather, if such measures are not taken, how can they criticize Minister Han or say they will impeach him? I think the opposition party's behavior right now is truly wrong."

Regarding the emerging theory within the ruling party about drafting Minister Han for the general election, he said, "The party has never considered drafting Minister Han, and there is still a lot of time left before the general election," adding, "It is important to perform the ministerial duties well, and I believe such speculative reports are incorrect."
