The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 27th that Lee Seong-hae, Chairman of the Metropolitan Area Wide-area Transportation Committee, will attend a high-level meeting for two days starting on the 29th to discuss the reconstruction and supply plans of Ukraine's transportation infrastructure.
This high-level meeting will be held in the Rzesz?w-Yasionka area near the Ukraine border in Poland. It is co-hosted by the Polish Ministry of Infrastructure and the International Transport Forum (ITF) under the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), with ministers and vice ministers from 32 countries including the UK, the US, Japan, Germany, France, and Ukraine expected to attend.
The main agenda is the reconstruction and development plans for transportation and logistics infrastructure as part of Ukraine's rebuilding efforts. Participating countries plan to discuss Ukraine's infrastructure reconstruction needs, infrastructure development plans to strengthen global connectivity, and ways for the international community to support these efforts in the short and long term.
Korea plans to promote its post-war reconstruction experience and advanced capabilities in transportation and logistics through meetings with Ukraine and major Western countries, and to express its willingness to participate in the reconstruction projects.
After the meeting, Chairman Lee will move to Warsaw to visit the largest waste incineration plant construction site in Poland, which POSCO Engineering & Construction won the contract for in 2020, beating European companies. He plans to inspect the construction status, encourage on-site personnel, and request stricter quality and safety management until the scheduled completion in January next year.
Prior to this, on the 28th, Chairman Lee will visit the Mobility and Transport of European Commission in Brussels, Belgium, to discuss recent issues and policy directions in the public transportation sector.
In particular, he will consider the policy directions needed to adapt to the changing public transportation environment, including post-COVID-19 and eco-friendly policies, and propose strengthening cooperation between Korea and the European Union (EU) to create a more convenient public transportation system amid these changes.
Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Won Hee-ryong said, "Through this meeting involving the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, we will discuss plans for the reconstruction of Ukraine's transportation and logistics infrastructure with various countries overseas, convey the Korean government's strong willingness to participate, and lay the foundation for our companies' involvement in reconstruction projects." He added, "Starting with attending this meeting, Korea will actively share its successful post-war reconstruction experience with the Ukrainian government and international organizations including the ITF."
