Successful Establishment of Convenience Store Fresh Meat

CU announced on the 27th that it will be the first convenience store in the industry to sell Korean beef seasoning steak starting from the 30th.


The two types of seasoning steak (Garlic and Pepper) being introduced this time are products made from 1st-grade Korean beef sirloin. They undergo wet aging for three weeks at 0 to 5 degrees Celsius while vacuum-packed, resulting in a tender texture. The portion size is 180g, suitable for one meal.

CU will sell the seasoning steak at a discounted price of 9,900 won, 1,000 won off the regular price, for one month until the end of next month. Since freshness is the top priority for this product, the display and sales period are strictly managed to be less than half of the expiration date. Korean beef seasoning steak is available at CU stores nationwide, including Jeju Island.


The reason CU is expanding its livestock product lineup is due to the popularization of nearby shopping. In fact, during the pork discount event held earlier this month for Samgyeopsal Day, more than 20,000 pork neck and belly cuts were sold within ten days.


A BGF Retail official said, “As the quality and price competitiveness of convenience store fresh meat have improved, leading to successful establishment, we are expanding the lineup from pork to Korean beef. We will continue to discover highly competitive products targeting budget-conscious convenience store shoppers and establish ourselves as the representative nearby shopping channel.”
