Appointing a Total of 25 District Residents as Models by Category, from Children to Seniors
From this month until December, they will serve as cover models for the district newsletter and participate in promotions for festivals and events
Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Gyeong-gi) has appointed 25 residents as the '1st Jungnang-gu Promotion Models' to widely promote the charm of Jungnang.
The district announced that on the 24th, it held the appointment ceremony for the 1st Jungnang-gu Promotion Models at Jungnang-gu Office. The purpose is to have residents directly participate in local promotion to increase familiarity and trust among residents and to boost pride as Jungnang-gu citizens. In February, the district recruited promotion models from residents or those living in the Jungnang area, and out of 81 applicants, 25 were finally selected.
The promotion models consist of various generations: 5 children (ages 5?7), 6 youths (ages 8?19), 10 adults (ages 20?64), and 4 seniors (65 and older). The activity period is from this month until December. They will not only be the main figures in various promotional materials announcing district news such as events and festivals but also participate in filming when producing social network service (SNS) content and videos.
Kwon Arin, selected for the youth category, expressed her determination, saying, “I will become the shining face of Jungnang-gu and actively promote our neighborhood.” Park Cheon-su, selected for the senior category, said, “It is meaningful that Jungnang residents can directly promote the area,” and pledged, “I will do my best to spread the word about Jungnang-gu.”
Ryu Gyeong-gi, Mayor of Jungnang-gu, said, "It is very meaningful for residents who know the area well to become local promotion models and participate in widely promoting our neighborhood," adding, "Together with the resident promotion models, we will continue to share various stories of Jungnang-gu."
Nowon Implements Detailed Support Policies for Childbirth and Parenting
Free commemorative photo shoots and framed photos for basic livelihood security recipients
Mobile cultural gift certificates worth 20,000 KRW per person once a year for families with three or more children
Delicate policy support including free naming services for newborns, toy rental centers, and toy delivery services
Nowon-gu (Mayor Oh Seung-rok) is implementing various policies to encourage childbirth and create a parenting-friendly atmosphere.
According to Statistics Korea's announcement in February, South Korea's total fertility rate in 2022 was only 0.78, and Seoul's fertility rate was 0.59, the lowest nationwide. Nowon-gu's total fertility rate was 0.72, ranking joint first among Seoul's autonomous districts, but still below the national total fertility rate.
In response, the district began developing childbirth and parenting support policies at the district level to prevent the decline in fertility rates. Recently, it has supported the cost of commemorative photo shoots for babies' first birthdays in low-income families and provided mobile cultural gift certificates to families with three or more children to help them enjoy cultural life, striving to create a better environment for raising children.
Support for Baby’s First Birthday Commemorative Photo Shoot
The district provides free commemorative photo shoots for babies' first birthdays to recipients of the national basic livelihood security residing in Nowon-gu. Photos include the traditional first birthday table setup and the doljabi (first birthday ritual) scene, as well as family photos, which are framed and given to the family.
This is to commemorate the once-in-a-lifetime first birthday and create happy memories for low-income families who may find the cost of setting up the dol table and photo shoots burdensome, thereby fostering a parenting-friendly atmosphere.
This year’s applicants are households with babies born in 2022, who must apply in person at their local community service center. After coordinating the schedule with the designated photography company, the applicant visits for the photo shoot. To avoid any discomfort for low-income families, the photography company bills the district directly for the photo shoot costs.
Mobile Cultural Gift Certificates for Multi-Child Families
The district provides mobile cultural gift certificates worth 20,000 KRW per person annually to families raising three or more children under the age of 20. This aims to increase opportunities for multi-child families to enjoy culture and arts and reduce parenting burdens.
As of January this year, there are 2,269 families with three or more children, expected to benefit a total of 6,958 children.
The support is provided once per household per year, and applications can be made by visiting the local community service center. Retroactive support is not available for missed applications.
Additionally, since 2012, the district has continuously offered free naming services for newborns in families with two or more children, multicultural families, and low-income households. Applicants can visit the district office’s Civil Affairs and Passport Division every Thursday from 2 PM to 5 PM or apply via email. A fortune-telling expert personally provides naming and name interpretation services.
The toy rental center ‘Noriatti’ is also in operation. Currently, four locations operate, and families with children under five years old can rent up to two toys per visit for up to 14 days with an annual membership fee of 15,000 KRW for about 4,200 toys. The free toy delivery service ‘Toy Boongboong’ is available up to five times per person annually.
Mayor Oh Seung-rok said, “We are considering childbirth and parenting support policies to reduce the decline in fertility rates,” adding, “We will continue to make every effort at the district level through various initiatives to create an environment where it is good to give birth and raise children.”
