Europe's daylight saving time (DST) for this year begins on the 26th (local time). As a result, the time difference with Korea will decrease from 8 hours to 7 hours.
European DST is applied starting at 2 a.m., moving the clock forward to 3 a.m. The time difference with Korea, based on Central European Time (CET), will be reduced from 8 hours to 7 hours.
DST is a system that advances the standard time by one hour to prepare for the longer daylight hours in summer. When DST ends before winter, the clock is set back by one hour. This year, European DST will end on October 29.
The European Union (EU) has been starting and ending DST on the last Sundays of March and October since 1996.
DST is implemented in over 70 countries worldwide with the purpose of saving energy and promoting economic activities by utilizing daylight hours. It was first introduced during the 1973 oil shock and has been in effect in Germany since 1980.
