A Total of 5.4 Billion Won Invested... Improvements Made at 138 Sites in 19 Cities and Counties Including Suwon
Gyeonggi Province announced on the 26th that it will invest 5.4 billion KRW this year to promote 138 pedestrian environment improvement projects for vulnerable road users such as children, the elderly, and people with disabilities to ensure their safe walking environment.
The improvement projects cover four areas: 51 locations with frequent or concerning child traffic accidents near places such as Uijeongbu Information Library; 74 locations with frequent or concerning elderly and disabled traffic accidents near places such as Suwon Namhaenggung Senior Center and Gwacheon Disabled Welfare Center; and 13 other pedestrian environment improvement sites including in front of Suwon Girls' High School and the intersection in front of Seongil Middle and High School in Seongnam.
The province plans to install and maintain road traffic safety facilities such as traffic safety signs, anti-slip pavement, pedestrian protective fences, and speed enforcement cameras near the targeted child protection zones and elderly and disabled protection zones.
Cheon Byeong-mun, Director of Road Safety, stated, "We plan to continuously cooperate with 31 cities and counties to carry out the projects."
