Rapper Noel (real name Jang Yong-jun, 23), who had closed his social media accounts after causing controversy with his self-written rap lyrics last January, resumed his SNS activities after two months and posted a controversial post. He uploaded a news photo of his father, Jang Je-won, a member of the People Power Party, and wrote, "I feel like I'm going to choke."

On the 25th, Noel posted three photos on his Instagram story. Two of the photos were of samgyeopsal (pork belly) and fried rice, with the fried rice photo captioned 'Carbohydrate-Protein-Fat diet. If you disagree, XX.' The last photo he posted was a screenshot of a news broadcast featuring his father, Representative Jang.

The scene Noel captured, seemingly by photographing a TV screen in a restaurant, showed Representative Jang with a tense expression, shouting "Listen up," and the subtitle at the bottom of the screen read, 'Despite explanations from other staff, anger seems unresolved...'

The incident occurred on the 22nd when Representative Jang, chairman of the National Assembly's Public Administration and Security Committee, called back Park Chan-jin, Secretary-General of the Central Election Commission, who was about to leave during a public committee meeting, and scolded him in a high-handed tone mixed with informal speech. This behavior was criticized by both ruling and opposition parties as 'inappropriate conduct.'

Noel left only the food photos and soon deleted the photo of Representative Jang.

Controversy over self-written song referencing 'Jeon Du-hwan era'... Song deleted

Meanwhile, Noel caused controversy by mentioning the 'Jeon Du-hwan era' in the lyrics of his self-written song 'GangGangGang,' released last January. The song was a diss track responding to rapper Flicky Bang, who had dissed him. Flicky Bang appeared on a YouTube program and freestyled, "I grew up eating doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew), but I've never drunk-driven," targeting Noel's drunk driving record.

Noel responded with the lyrics, "If it were the Jeon Du-hwan era, if you mess with me, you'd go straight to the basement," which was criticized for mocking not only victims of the 1980s military dictatorship but also the public. Following the controversy, Noel deleted the song from SoundCloud and closed his Instagram account.

Previously, in 2019, Noel caused an accident by hitting a motorcycle while driving with a blood alcohol concentration above the license cancellation threshold. He was sentenced to 1 year and 6 months in prison with a 2-year probation. During the probation period in September 2021, he was sentenced to 1 year in prison after causing another collision while driving without a license and under the influence. He was released in October last year after serving his sentence.
