Carefully Observing While Exploring
Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam is putting all its efforts into the safety management of the 61st Jinhae Gunhangje Festival, which is expected to attract 4.5 million domestic and international tourists over 10 days.
On the afternoon of the 25th, the opening day of the Jinhae Gunhangje Festival, Hong Nam-pyo, Mayor of Changwon Special City, along with Ha Jong-mok, 1st Deputy Mayor, Jeong Hyun-seop, Director of the Culture, Tourism and Sports Bureau, and other related officials, conducted an on-site inspection of the festival’s progress.
Hong Nampyo, Mayor of Changwon Special City, along with Ha Jongmok, First Deputy Mayor, and Jeong Hyunseop, Director of the Culture, Tourism, and Sports Bureau, conducted an on-site inspection of the festival progress with related officials.
On that day, Mayor Hong and his party started from Jungwon Rotary and toured key areas where tourists were concentrated, including Yeojae Stream, Jinhae Inland Water Environment Ecological Park, and Yeojae Police Center, checking traffic conditions, safety facilities, and crowd density. They also thoroughly rechecked the city’s preparations for traffic management, tourist order guidance, food safety, and emergency response, pledging to hold a successful festival.
Mayor Hong said, “I hope all visitors can safely enjoy the cherry blossoms and various contents of the Jinhae Gunhangje Festival, which reunites us after four years,” adding, “Any areas needing improvement identified during today’s inspection will be immediately addressed to create a pleasant and safe festival site, and we will strive to help the Jinhae Gunhangje Festival leap forward as a world-class festival.”
In particular, Mayor Hong attracted attention as he inspected various spots along Yeojae Stream, known as a popular cherry blossom photo spot, greeting and chatting with citizens he met along the way.
He also expressed gratitude to the public officials and volunteers stationed throughout the festival, saying, “Thanks to your efforts and dedication, we were able to hold the Jinhae Gunhangje Festival after four years,” and urged them to continue their hard work to ensure a successful festival.
The city introduced a new safety system and deployed personnel where needed to make the Jinhae Gunhangje Festival safe and free of accidents after four years.
First, to prevent safety accidents in advance, a ‘Mobile Warning System’ was introduced. This device issues warning broadcasts in advance when crowds gather and there is a risk of safety accidents. Additionally, about 6,000 public officials and volunteers are deployed throughout the festival period to manage safety and traffic at the event sites.
The crowd management vehicle operated by the police, known as the DJ Police, is also drawing attention. The DJ Police is a van about 2 meters high, from which police officers monitor crowd density and make announcement broadcasts while displaying safety-related messages. It began operating at Yeojae Stream from the day before the festival.
