Yeongju City in Gyeongbuk held the ‘2023 Yeongju Citizen Health Walking Contest’ on the morning of the 25th at 9 a.m. at the Seocheon Riverside, with over 1,200 citizens participating in a great turnout to promote citizen unity and health improvement.
Organized by the Yeongju City Sports Council, this walking contest was designed with routes and distances that anyone, regardless of age or gender, could comfortably participate in. The event began at 8:30 a.m.
Participants warmed up with exercises after the opening ceremony and started from the inline skating rink under Yeongju Bridge, walking along the 7 km course passing the 1st Gahung Bridge and 2nd Gahung Bridge, turning back at Hanjeong Bridge. Families, couples, and friends enjoyed walking together and chatting along the way.
Kim Minseong (Gahung-dong) said, “I was able to fully enjoy the spring atmosphere while walking along the open Seocheon,” adding, “I’m happy that the family photo taken with spring flowers in the background turned out well.”
Participants were given commemorative gifts such as T-shirts and snacks, and a raffle provided chances to win prizes including Korean beef sets, apple sets, and home appliances.
A representative from the city sports council said, “This event was organized to promote unity and health improvement among citizens exhausted by the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic,” adding, “It was a precious time for many citizens to walk together along the Seocheon Riverside filled with spring flowers.”
