Agreement on Mutual Exchange in Culture, Tourism, and Economy

The Sandong-myeon Residents' Autonomy Committee of Gurye-gun, Jeollanam-do (Chairman Choi Gyudong) and the Taepyeong 3-dong Residents' Autonomy Committee of Seongnam City (Chairman Bae Hwaja) held a sisterhood alliance ceremony on the 23rd at the Sandong-myeon Office meeting room, attended by residents' autonomy committee members and dong/myeon chiefs from both regions. They agreed to mutually exchange in the fields of culture, tourism, and economy for the development and prosperity of both regions based on their local characteristics.

Sandong-myeon of Gurye-gun, mainly engaged in agriculture such as Sansuyu (Cornus fruit) at the foot of Jirisan Mountain, and Taepyeong 3-dong of Seongnam City, which forms the regional central commercial district including traditional markets, have different regional characteristics. However, the rural and urban residents' autonomy committees pledged a meaningful resolution to pursue joint development through exchange and cooperation.

In particular, the Sandong-myeon Residents' Autonomy Committee showed interest in direct sales of local agricultural specialties such as Sansuyu, cucumbers, gorosoe (maple sap), and persimmons, proposing that both committees form a subcommittee to concretely implement this.

Also, at the luncheon following the alliance ceremony, Kim Sunho, the governor of Gurye-gun, emphasized, “I highly value the harmonious sisterhood alliance between urban and rural areas and ask both regions to actively promote exchanges for mutual development.”

Choi Gyudong, chairman of the Sandong-myeon Residents' Autonomy Committee, said, “Taepyeong 3-dong and Sandong-myeon have different environments as urban and rural areas, which rather becomes an advantage for cooperation and exchange between the two regions,” adding, “I hope that through active exchanges understanding the culture and regional characteristics of both areas, we can achieve not only regional joint development but also coexistence between urban and rural areas.”

Bae Hwaja, chairman of Taepyeong 3-dong, stated, “Taepyeong 3-dong is a typical urban area with a large floating population and a formed central commercial district, and I am pleased to establish a special sisterhood alliance with Sandong-myeon, which is based on agriculture and rich in tourism resources,” adding, “We will actively promote friendly exchanges for urban-rural coexistence.”
