Naju City in Jeollanam-do has been selected for the Ministry of Environment’s 2023 ‘Liquefied Hydrogen Charging Station Installation Private Capital Subsidy Project,’ securing 7 billion KRW in national funding.
According to the city on the 24th, the project site is located at the public cargo truck parking lot in Cheongdong, Naju City, with a total investment of 10 billion KRW, including 7 billion KRW in national funds, to be completed by next year.
The liquefied hydrogen charging station supplies liquefied hydrogen, which has the advantage of enabling 8 to 10 times larger capacity storage and transportation compared to conventional gaseous hydrogen.
The liquefied hydrogen charging station to be installed in Naju is planned to be built to fully charge 80 to 100 hydrogen buses per day on average.
The city expects synergy effects such as the expansion of large hydrogen commercial vehicles like buses and trucks, diversification of hydrogen vehicles, improved convenience in logistics transportation, and reduction of pollutants from large vehicles.
The Naju public cargo truck parking lot was opened in September 2019 with a total project cost of 18.6 billion KRW to resolve issues such as obstructed views and overnight illegal parking of cargo trucks along roadsides, and to establish an advanced traffic culture.
It has 341 parking spaces including 18 extra-large, 198 large, and 125 small spaces, as well as vehicle maintenance facilities, a restaurant, a local agricultural and specialty products sales center, a fitness room, and shower facilities, serving not only as parking but also as a resting place for drivers who accumulate fatigue from long hours of driving.
Mayor Yoon Byeong-tae said, “The installation of the hydrogen charging station has long been a wish of hydrogen vehicle drivers commuting to and from Bitgaram Innovation City and the Innovation Industrial Complex,” adding, “We expect it to contribute to the distribution and popularization of large commercial hydrogen vehicles through the strategic establishment of hydrogen charging infrastructure that aligns with the 2050 carbon neutrality realization and Naju’s vision as an energy capital.”
