Mokpo City Pledges Successful Hosting of Jeonnam Sports Festival and Disabled Sports Festival

Inaugural Ceremony of the Sports Festival Organizing Committee Held

"We Will Achieve a Leap in Tourism, Culture, and Sports"

Mokpo City, Jeollanam-do, held the launch ceremony of the Mokpo City Operation Committee for the 104th National Sports Festival and the 43rd National Para Games on the 24th at the Mokpo Shangri-La Beach Hotel, rallying the capabilities of various sectors for the success of the two major sports events.

According to the city, the launch ceremony was attended by about 100 people, including Mayor Park Hong-ryul, chairman of the event operation committee, and heads of local institutions and organizations. The event featured a pre-ceremony congratulatory performance, presentation of appointment letters to committee members, progress reports, opening remarks, congratulatory speeches, and a success prayer performance.

In particular, the appointed committee members from related institutions, organizations, Mokpo City Sports Council, and Mokpo Disabled Sports Council pledged to cooperate actively and make their best efforts to ensure the successful hosting of the events.

The operation committee for the two major sports events consists of 126 members, centered on Mayor Park Hong-ryul as chairman and key heads of local institutions and organizations. The term lasts until the conclusion of the 2025 Life Sports Festival.

The main roles include establishing cooperative systems and providing advice and support for event preparations.

Mayor Park Hong-ryul stated, “This event is very meaningful as it is the first national sports event held primarily in our city since the port opened in 1897. We will successfully host the two major sports festivals to achieve a hopeful leap forward not only in the regional economy but also across society in tourism, culture, and sports.”

Going forward, Mokpo City plans to hold a citywide promotion council and a citizen supporters launch ceremony sequentially to encourage voluntary citizen participation for a citizen-united sports festival by gathering the power and wisdom of its citizens.

Meanwhile, the 104th National Sports Festival will be held from October 13 to 19, centered in Mokpo City as the main host, with 49 events spread across 65 venues in 22 cities and counties of Jeollanam-do. The 43rd National Para Games will take place from November 3 to 8, with 31 events held at 36 venues in 12 cities and counties.
