Participation in the Mayors and County Chiefs Council for Regional Development in the Gaya Cultural Area
Goseong-gun, Gyeongnam attended the 27th regular meeting of the Gayaculture Area Development Mayors and County Governors Council held at Wanju-gun Office on the 24th.
The Gayaculture Area Development Mayors and County Governors Council is an administrative council formed in 2005 for mutual cooperation and joint development among cities and counties in the Gayaculture area. Currently, 25 cities and counties participate and hold regular meetings twice a year.
Goseong-gun, Gyeongnam attended the 27th regular meeting of the Mayors and County Governors Council for the Development of the Gaya Cultural Area held at Wanju-gun Office.
The 25 cities and counties attending this meeting deliberated on agenda items such as holding the ‘Understanding Gayasa’ workshop, selecting the venue for the second half of 2023 regular meeting, and electing the 9th council chairman. They pledged to inherit and develop the spirit of unity of Gaya through exchanges between local governments.
County Governor Lee Sang-geun said, “We have designated 2023 as the year to build Goseong based on history and culture,” adding, “With the inscription of the Songhakdong Tumuli Cluster in Goseong as a World Heritage site, we are vigorously working together with 50,000 residents to promote the brilliant history of Sogaya to the world and to have the Dongwedong Shell Mound in Goseong, a living relic of the Sogaya people, designated as a national historic site.”
The county is currently conducting the ‘Comprehensive Maintenance Plan Establishment Project for Goseong Sogaya Historical City’ and is preparing to apply for the ‘Historical and Cultural Area Historical and Cultural Environment Maintenance and Promotion Leading Project’ hosted by the Cultural Heritage Administration, focusing on building the Sogaya historical city.
