The College of Social Sciences at Dong-A University invited Seo Yong-cheol, Director of the Busan Institute of Science and Technology Promotion (BISTEP), to hold the first special lecture of the 2023 academic year for the College of Social Sciences.
On the 23rd, Dong-A University announced on the 24th that Director Seo gave a special lecture titled "Creating the Future with Technologies That Do Not Exist in the World" at Kim Gwan-eum Hall on the Bumin Campus.
The special lecture was attended by about 200 people, including Yoon Eun-gi, Dean of the College of Social Sciences at Dong-A University, Jeong Seong-moon, Head of the Department of Economics, students from the College of Social Sciences, and citizens.
The Busan Institute of Science and Technology Promotion (BISTEP), a research and development (R&D) specialized institution funded by Busan City, is responsible for establishing science and technology policies for Busan's development, planning to attract national R&D projects, and evaluating the performance of R&D projects.
Participants are taking a group commemorative photo at the special lecture hosted by the College of Social Sciences at Dong-A University, featuring Seo Yong-cheol, Director of the Busan Institute of Industrial Science and Innovation.
In the special lecture, Director Seo cited "ChatGPT," which has recently emerged as a global issue, emphasizing, "It is important to create the future with technologies that have never existed before, and that originates from differences in thinking."
He continued, "Busan must continuously strive for innovation by creating science and technology infrastructure to generate next-generation growth engines and promote regional innovation, as well as establishing a regional R&D system," urging students to "grow into talents who create the future."
Director Seo earned his doctorate from the University of Tokyo, then joined Pukyong National University as a professor in the Department of Civil Engineering, nurturing future scholars. Since October 2021, he has been leading the Busan Institute of Science and Technology Promotion. He has served as vice president of the Korean Geographic Information Society and received a commendation from the Prime Minister.
