"Going to Find the Hair Straightener" High School Nutritionist Threatens Students on SNS

Hair Straightener Used as Assault Tool in School Violence Drama 'The Glory'
School Officials: "Posted as a Joke... Warning and Follow-up Measures Taken"

A high school nutritionist has sparked controversy by posting content on social networking services (SNS) that belittles and insults the students they work with.

According to a whistleblower who identified themselves as a high school official and the Jeonbuk Office of Education, a nutritionist named A at a high school in the province posted on their Instagram, "I want to beat the second-year geumjjok-i X. From tomorrow, you will get a little less meat X, you XXX. Instead of dealing with your XX, I'm going to find a hair straightener," along with a photo of the cafeteria line, reported Yonhap News on the 24th.

The hair straightener is a tool used as a subject of school violence in the recently aired Netflix drama The Glory. In the drama, a school violence perpetrator uses a hair straightener to burn the victim's skin, leading the bullying, which seems to be referenced here.

The whistleblower pointed out in a phone interview with Yonhap News, "Besides the insults, the words used evoke violent scenes from the currently trending school violence-related drama," adding, "Although the post was made on a personal account, it was set to public so everyone could see it."

The whistleblower continued, "This nutritionist also caused controversy last October by exposing documents containing personal information of school staff in a post," adding, "This time, they went too far by using insults and words implying school violence."

The school responded to the controversy, stating, "After confirming with the nutritionist, they said the post was made as a joke and they did not expect such a big reaction," adding, "The post has been deleted, and we plan to take follow-up measures such as verbal warnings and provide education to prevent recurrence."
