KT Submarine Signs Contract for Subsea Fiber Optic Cable Installation in Southeast Asia

Contract worth 3 billion with Japan NEC

KT Submarine (KTS) announced on the 24th that it has signed a contract with Japan's NEC for the installation (protection work) of submarine optical cables between Thailand and Vietnam. The contract period is from August 1 to September 14, with a contract value of 3 billion KRW.

This project is part of a consortium (ADC) formed by Japanese and Southeast Asian telecommunications operators to install submarine optical cables over approximately 9,400 km from Japan to Singapore. KTS has been preparing for business expansion by replacing aging ship equipment with the latest devices and purchasing new power laying cables.

Lee Seung-yong, CEO of KTS, said, “As video streaming services increase and video quality improves, the submarine optical cable construction projects for stable intercontinental and international communication services are also increasing," adding, "We will actively participate in domestic and international submarine cable projects in cooperation with LS Cable & System and continue to increase sales.”

KTS recently signed a contract worth a total of 26 billion KRW to participate in the laying and installation of LS Cable & System’s ‘Jeju 3-Connection Submarine Cable Construction Project.’ The industry expects that if LS Cable & System exercises its call option in the first half of the year to become the largest shareholder of KTS, synergy between the two companies will increase.
