A police officer who accepted bribes in exchange for favors from a person involved in a case was handed over to the prosecution while in custody.

The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's Violent Crime Investigation Unit announced on the 24th that Sergeant Kim, who was part of the Anti-Corruption and Public Crime Investigation Unit at the Seoul Police Agency, was sent to the prosecution in custody on charges of bribery under the Special Act on the Punishment of Specific Crimes.


Sergeant Kim is accused of receiving approximately 35 million won in two installments at the end of 2021 after accepting a case favor from A, an illegal subscription savings account broker. A was also sent to the prosecution in custody on the 15th on charges of bribery.


The Violent Crime Investigation Unit of the Seoul Police Agency investigated a group of illegal subscription brokers who bought accounts with high subscription scores to engage in fraudulent subscriptions from 2021, arresting three and sending four others to prosecution without detention by March of last year. A, who was involved in the case and booked by the police, sought a police officer who could cover up the investigation and was reportedly introduced to Sergeant Kim of the Anti-Corruption and Public Crime Investigation Unit, who works in the same building.


Meanwhile, Sergeant Kim has reportedly been on standby since September of last year.
