The Bank of Korea to Move to 'Namdaemun Headquarters' from the End of This Month... Ending Rental Living

The Bank of Korea to Move to 'Namdaemun Headquarters' from the End of This Month... Ending Rental Living

The Bank of Korea is ending its "jeonse living" and returning to its headquarters in Namdaemun.

The Bank of Korea announced on the 24th, "The remodeling of the main building and the reconstruction of the integrated annex, which began in the second half of 2019, have been completed, making it possible to move in," adding, "We have decided to relocate the headquarters departments currently housed in the Samsung Life Main Building and Sogong Annex to the Bank of Korea headquarters."

The relocation of the headquarters departments is planned to be carried out sequentially from the end of this month until the end of next month.

Previously, since mid-2017, the Bank of Korea started "jeonse living" at the Samsung Main Building in Jung-gu, Seoul, for the reconstruction and remodeling of the head office building.

Originally, the Bank aimed to complete the construction by 2020, marking its 70th anniversary, but the period was delayed by about twice as long due to construction bidding lawsuits and COVID-19.

Currently, all departments located in the Samsung Main Building, Sogong Annex, and Gangnam Headquarters will move to the Bank of Korea headquarters located in Namdaemun-ro 3-ga.

Departments within the Currency Museum, which is not subject to reconstruction, will not be relocated. Also, the Issuance Bureau, which moved to the Gangnam Headquarters, will reoccupy the headquarters separately later due to internal circumstances.

The foreign exchange transaction reporting task (Foreign Exchange Review Team) will be carried out at the Bank of Korea headquarters starting from the 24th of next month.

Even after reoccupying, the telephone numbers related to each department's work will remain the same as they are now.

The Bank of Korea's Friday Lectures, economic education sessions for the general public held weekly, will be separately announced on the Bank of Korea website after the venue and schedule are confirmed.
