After Mom and Dad Zebras Died, Personality Changed
Fighting Kangaroos and Rebelling Against Caretakers
"The Sadness Must Have Been So Great..." Netizens Show Support
Many netizens are expressing sympathy for Sero, the zebra who caused an escape commotion, after learning about his sad story.
On the 23rd, a 2-year-old male Grant's zebra named Sero broke through the wooden fence around his enclosure and escaped from the Seoul Children's Grand Park Zoo.

Afterwards, Sero wandered around nearby roads and residential areas before being captured alive after three hours.
In a video released on the Seoul Facilities Corporation's YouTube channel last January, the story of the 'rebellious' Sero was revealed. The zookeepers explained that Sero was raised with plenty of love from his parents at Children's Grand Park, but began to rebel after his mother and father zebras passed away one after another.

The video showed Sero refusing to enter his shelter, fighting with kangaroos, and acting aggressively toward the zookeepers. However, thanks to the zookeepers' persistent efforts, Sero seemed to settle down and live happily. The zookeepers took care of him by giving him toys and snacks to keep him from getting bored.
After escaping into the city, Sero was surrounded in an alley in Guui-dong, Gwangjin-gu, about 1 km away from the zoo. Police, fire authorities, and park zookeepers encircled Sero and set up a safety fence, then administered muscle relaxants seven times using a firearm-type tranquilizer device called a 'Blue Gun.' Eventually, Sero collapsed and was loaded onto a cargo truck and returned to Seoul Grand Park.

Fortunately, there were no reports of casualties or property damage caused by Sero.
Seoul Grand Park stated, "We will thoroughly investigate the cause of the escape and do our best to prevent recurrence," adding, "Veterinarians and dedicated zookeepers at the Grand Park will take full responsibility for caring for the zebra's health."
After Sero's story became known, netizens commented, "He lost his mom and dad and is going through adolescence; I hope he is doing well," "He must have been under so much stress to break the fence," and "The sorrow of losing family is the same for animals and humans."
