The ‘Korea-Togo Foreign Ministers' Meeting’ was held on the 23rd, hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to broadly exchange views on mutual interests such as the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Korea and Togo, political and economic relations, development cooperation, climate change, the situation on the Korean Peninsula, and support for the 2030 Busan World Expo.

Taking this opportunity, the city invited high-ranking officials from Togo, including Foreign Minister Robert Dussey, who visited Korea, to Busan to conduct negotiations and promotional activities for the 2030 Busan World Expo bid and to expand the global network with African countries.

Upon arrival in Busan, the Togo officials will move to the North Port Promotion Center and tour the North Port area, the planned site for the 2030 Busan World Expo, where they will be briefed on the current status of the site, facility development plans, and preparations for hosting the 2030 Busan World Expo.

In particular, the city plans to compellingly convey the value and significance of the 2030 Busan World Expo, which Busan aims to host, as well as the attractiveness of Busan as the optimal location for the Expo.

Next, they will move to the Westin Chosun Hotel for a welcome luncheon. The luncheon will be presided over by Vice Mayor Ahn Byung-yoon, and the city will actively explain Busan’s capabilities as a prepared candidate city for hosting the 2030 World Expo.

Mayor Park Hyung-jun of Busan, who returned on the 3rd after completing a 7-night, 10-day tour of three African countries from February 22 as a special presidential envoy for the 2030 Busan World Expo bid, will also engage in active and relentless negotiation efforts to win Togo’s support.

At 3 p.m. on the same day, Mayor Park will hold a meeting with Foreign Minister Robert Dussey and the visiting delegation in the International Protocol Room at City Hall.

At this meeting, Mayor Park plans to communicate the strong will of the Korean government, Busan City, and its citizens to host the 2030 World Expo, along with the promotional activities conducted so far and Busan’s capabilities as a host city, while actively requesting Togo’s support for the bid.

He will also introduce similarities between Togo, which faces the Gulf of Guinea to the south and has natural conditions ideal for maritime trade, and Busan, which possesses the world’s 7th largest port and the 2nd largest transshipment port, and discuss expanding cooperation in various fields such as logistics, agriculture, the coffee industry, and coastal erosion response.

Mayor Park said, “I will actively explain to the high-ranking Togo officials visiting Busan the value and significance of the 2030 Busan World Expo, which will provide answers to common challenges faced by humanity and lead a great transformation.” He added, “By introducing various aspects of Busan, including a tour of the planned site, I will directly demonstrate Busan’s suitability and justification as the host city for the 2030 World Expo, as well as the city’s passionate enthusiasm to hold the Expo.”
