Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon expressed a strong stance against the Nationwide Coalition for the Elimination of Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities (Jeonjangyeon) resuming subway boarding protests on the 23rd. Jeonjangyeon, which announced it would suspend boarding protests in January, resumed protests that morning at City Hall Station on Seoul Subway Line 1 after about two months.

Mayor Oh shared a post by a visually impaired jazz pianist on his Facebook, stating, "Actions that harm the perception of persons with disabilities, which has been carefully built over a long time, are not wise even from the perspective of persons with disabilities."

The jazz pianist posted the day before, saying, "I have received a lot of help from station staff when using the subway," and asked to "stop Jeonjangyeon's protests to revive the perception of dying persons with disabilities."

Mayor Oh added, "Illegal acts will definitely be corrected," and added, "Seoul City will always strive to create a society where persons with and without disabilities live together."

About ten Jeonjangyeon members attempted to board the subway at the City Hall Station's upward platform from around 8:45 a.m. that day. Jeonjangyeon had temporarily suspended boarding protests since January 20.

Jeonjangyeon is protesting against Seoul City's comprehensive survey on deinstitutionalized persons with disabilities and on-site inspections of tailored public job agencies, claiming these are targeted investigations aimed at "killing Jeonjangyeon." They resumed protests demanding dialogue with Seoul City.

However, they were unable to board the subway due to intervention by subway security guards and police. Jeonjangyeon has been continuing protests for over two years since 2021, demanding the protection of rights for deinstitutionalized persons with disabilities.
