Kim Chi-hoon, who was recently appointed as the Director of the Disability Rights Support Division at the Ministry of Health and Welfare through an open position recruitment, resigned following opposition from disability organizations.
According to the Ministry of Health and Welfare on the 23rd, Kim voluntarily submitted his resignation on the 20th, and after the related procedures, he was dismissed as of the previous day.
The Ministry had conducted an open position recruitment for the Director of the Disability Rights Support Division targeting private experts from the end of October, and appointed Kim, former Policy Research Director of the National Parents' Association of Persons with Disabilities, on the 13th of this month. In response, disability organizations such as the Korea Disability Rights Forum and the Korea Federation of Organizations of the Disabled criticized him, pointing out his history of activities under the National Solidarity Against Disability Discrimination (Jeonjangyeon).
The Ministry stated, "At the time of the open position recruitment for the Director of the Disability Rights Support Division at the end of October last year, private experts in social welfare, disability-related policies, and disability welfare administration were the recruitment targets," adding, "There was no consideration for any specific organization, and the selection was made following fair procedures according to the standards of the Ministry of Personnel Management."
