Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon announced that the world's largest 'Semiconductor Mega Cluster' will launch on the 23rd.


On the same day, Governor Kim posted on his social media, "Last week, I promised to create an organization to support the establishment of an advanced system semiconductor cluster," and "The 'Semiconductor Support TF' will be launched in just 8 days," he announced.


He continued, "Gyeonggi Province, Yongin City, and related organizations have all agreed to join forces," and promised, "Together with companies, we will actively support overcoming inertia with imagination to improve unreasonable regulations and foster talent."


In particular, he emphasized, "The attraction of this 'Semiconductor Mega Cluster' is the result of Gyeonggi Province's close communication with the companies and fierce competition and preparation against other regions," adding, "We will lead new growth industries such as semiconductors, bio, advanced mobility, AI (artificial intelligence), and big data."


Furthermore, he added, "(Through this) we will revitalize the economy's dynamism and inject vitality into the South Korean economy."


Earlier, Samsung Electronics announced plans to invest 300 trillion won by 2042 to build system semiconductor and high-performance memory semiconductor factories in Idong and Namsa-eup, Yongin. SK Hynix is also pushing forward with the construction of a fab plant worth 120 trillion won in Wonsan-myeon, Yongin.
