All 13 People Wearing Life Jackets

A ship ran aground near Gwangdaedo, Jodo-myeon, Jindo-gun, Jeollanam-do, and the Coast Guard secured the safety of 13 crew members on board while preparing for safety management of the surrounding waters and the salvage operation to refloat the stranded vessel.

According to the Mokpo Coast Guard, at around 6:44 a.m. on the 23rd, a report was received that a 40-ton coastal gillnet fishing vessel A, registered in Mokpo, carrying 13 people, ran aground near Gwangdaedo, Jodo-myeon, Jindo-gun.

The Coast Guard patrol ship arrived at the scene at 7:12 a.m., 28 minutes after the report, boarded the stranded vessel, confirmed that all 13 crew members were wearing life jackets and were safe, and conducted on-site response along with safety broadcasts to nearby navigating vessels.

All 13 crew members on the stranded vessel were confirmed to be in good health and safety condition, and the captain tested negative for alcohol consumption.

The Coast Guard is checking hazardous areas such as nearby fish farms, water depth, and tidal conditions in preparation for the refloating operation, while also assessing hull damage, physical damage, and any marine pollution. A detailed investigation into the cause of the accident will be conducted.

The Coast Guard is conducting rescue operations by deploying three patrol ships, one coastal rescue boat, the West Sea Marine Special Rescue Team, and private vessels at the accident site.
