Sejong City "Selects 3 Future Villages... Presents Blueprint for Rural Communities"

Sejong City is promoting the ‘Sejong Future Village’ pilot project to respond to rural regional extinction and population decline.

According to the city on the 23rd, the pilot project focuses on improving the rural residential environment through vacant house demolition and discovering region-specific profit business models, thereby creating living conditions that enable the influx of young people who wish to return to farming or rural areas, retirees, and those seeking education, healing, and experience.

The villages selected as pilot villages this year are Nosong 1-ri in Yeondong-myeon, Geumam 2-ri in Janggun-myeon, and Bongam 2-ri in Yeonseo-myeon. These villages are among the eight villages that participated in the public contest held from January 30 to February 15.

The city plans to form a promotion council by June, consisting of village residents, experts, and resident organizations for the selected pilot village areas, and to carry out the pilot village project based on the contest plans presented by the council.

Additionally, the city will analyze this year’s project outcomes to finalize the model of the Sejong-type Future Village and will actively expand the Sejong-type Future Village from next year.

The city plans to select at least one more pilot village in the second half of this year.

Go Seong-jin, head of the city’s Future Strategy Headquarters, said, “We will strive to improve the living environment by renovating vacant houses, which are the biggest obstacle to rural residential environments, and to enhance the quality of life in the Future Village. Above all, as a strategy to respond to population extinction, we will create Sejong-type rural future villages and realize Sejong as the capital of future strategy.”
