Campaign for 'Cancer Prevention Day' Launched
Namhae-gun Public Health Center in Gyeongnam conducted a campaign to raise awareness among residents about the importance of cancer prevention and management and to encourage participation in the national cancer screening in observance of 'Cancer Prevention Day.'
'Cancer Prevention Day' is a legally designated commemorative day established to provide information on cancer prevention and early diagnosis and to urge action in order to reduce the annually increasing cancer incidence rate.
The campaign held on the 22nd took place at Namhae-eup Traditional Market, where guidelines for lifestyle habits to prevent cancer were provided, and stool containers for colorectal cancer screening were distributed to encourage participation in the national cancer screening, promoting the importance of cancer prevention and early detection.
The national cancer screening in Korea covers six common types of cancer: stomach cancer, liver cancer, colorectal cancer, cervical cancer, breast cancer, and lung cancer. It allows early detection of cancer through relatively simple methods, and if cancer is detected and treated early through screening, a cure rate of over 90% is possible.
Lee Jeong-hee, the officer at the Public Health Center, said, “Cancer Prevention Day was a good opportunity to inform residents about the importance of cancer prevention and screening. Since cancer can be cured in more than 90% of cases if detected and treated early, we will do our best to promote and implement projects to encourage more residents to undergo cancer screening in the future.”
The Chronic Disease Management Team at Namhae-gun Public Health Center is conducting not only cancer prevention and management projects but also support programs for cancer patients, including medical expense assistance.
