Signboards of Over 1,000 Stores Turned Off for 5 Minutes
GS25 announced on the 23rd that it will turn off the signs of over 1,000 stores for 5 minutes at 8:30 PM on the 25th to participate in the 'Earth Hour' campaign hosted by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF).
This is the first time GS25 has participated in the Earth Hour campaign, with franchise stores and directly managed stores voluntarily joining. A business owner in Wonju-si, Gangwon Province, shared the opinion, "If we think of each other, a better future will be visible. I hope many people participate."
GS25 has been a pioneer in the franchise retail industry by establishing a Smart Energy Management System (SEMS). SEMS is a remote energy management system that combines Internet of Things (IoT) technology with electrical equipment and devices in stores, allowing the franchise headquarters' main server, business owners, and employees to monitor, manage, and control store power consumption anytime and anywhere via smartphones. Currently, this system is installed in over 13,000 stores. This campaign will also be conducted using SEMS, enabling batch control at participating stores without any inconvenience.
A GS Retail official stated, "Participation in this Earth Hour campaign is the beginning of a small effort to save the planet," adding, "We plan to increase the number of participating stores and actively engage in various climate crisis response activities in the future."
